China says U.S. should not meddle in Belarus' internal affairs

MINSK. May 27 (Interfax) - China is concerned by the decision of the U.S. to expand its economic sanctions against Belarus, China's National People's Congress Standing Committee vice chairman Han Qide said at a meeting with Chairman of the Belarusian National Assembly Council Gennady Novitsky.

"We are against any attempt by any country to interfere in Belarus' internal affairs under the pretext of protecting human rights. China is concerned by the expansion of U.S. economic sanctions against Belarus and has issued a special statement in support of Belarus by calling on the international community to give an objective and fair assessment of the events occurring in the country," he said.

"China understands and respects Belarus' path of development, as well as its international and foreign policy. We support your efforts aimed at protecting the country's sovereignty and dignity and maintaining internal stability and progress," Han Qide said.
