Lukashenko defiant on U.S. sanctions

MINSK. May 13 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has brushed aside the U.S. sanctions imposed on Belarus.

"Stop scaring us with your sanctions, we will survive," the president's press service quoted Lukashenko as saying in an interview with Western media outlets on Tuesday.

Belarus "is not stepping up any processes, including the processes of worsening relations with the Americans," he said.

Talking about the recent reduction in the U.S. personnel at the embassy in Minsk at Belarus' insistence, Lukashenko said, "If the Americans want to have 20, 30 or 50 diplomats here, be my guest. But we don't need diplomats working to the detriment of this country and not helping normalize relations," he said.
