Belarussian team inspects military bases in CzechRep

By Prague Daily Monitor/CTK /

Prague, May 15 (CTK) - A four-member inspection team from Belarus today started checking selected military bases in the Czech Republic in order to see whether the Czech military observes the Vienna document from 1999, Jan Pejsek from the Czech Defence Ministry has told CTK.

Within their three-day visit the Belarussians are to make inspection flights to check Czech military activities in the military districts in Brdy, central Bohemia, Hradiste, west Bohemia and Libava, north Moravia.

They are to visit the Czech rapid reaction brigade base in Zatec, north Bohemia.

Besides, the inspectors are to visit the Czech air base in Caslav, central Bohemia, and the mechanised battalion in Praslavice, north Moravia.

They are also to visit the artillery base in Jince, a town situated on the egde of the Brdy military district southwest of Prague, where the USA wants to build a part of its missile defence system.

The check is nothing exceptional, said Pejsek, adding that Czechs and Belarussians carry out reciprocal checks quite often.

The relevant agreements bind the Czech Republic to accept three similar inspections a year.

The Czechs carry out inspections as well. They have made a verifying check in Croatia and an inspection in Belarus this year.

Armament inspection has also been carried out under the Open Skies Treaty and the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe, under which the Czech Republic may own 957 tanks, 1,367 personal armoured carriers and 767 artillery systems.
