Belarus' Velcom to launch UMTS/WCDMA network in Mogilev

Mobile Digital Communications (MDC), a Belarusian cellco operating under the brand names Velcom and Privet, is piloting a 3G UMTS/WCDMA network in Mogilev, a city in eastern Belarus, reports E-Belarus.org.

Launched in the beginning of May, the pilot offers subscribers free access to the network until 30 July. MDC expects 3,000 subscribers to use the service during the trial period.

The UMTS/WCDMA network is using equipment provided by communications solutions provider Siemens.
