Belarus to extract oil and gas in Iran

In the near future, Belarus will start extracting oil and gas in Iran, said Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko yesterday after meeting his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is now in Minsk on an official visit. According to the Belarusian leader, the matter concerns development of Jufeir fields.

Commenting on the agreements reached, Ahmadinejad noted that the relations of the two countries relations are developing on the principles of friendship and justice and assist in maintaining stability in the region and the world: "We are only at the beginning of our way, but our steps are well-considered and have good prospects." It looks like the future Tehran-Minsk cooperation will be developing in an effective way, as Ahmadinejad will try to give a momentum to the project on assembling Iranian cars in Belarus.

The presidents stressed importance of implementing joint projects on construction of heat and power plants and hydroelectric power stations, chemical plants and factories for production of medical and other goods and equipment in Belarus. Ahmadinejad's visit is to finish today.
