Belarus sentences opposition activist to 5 months

In neighboring Belarus, a man was sentenced to five months in prison for his role in organizing opposition protests during the presidential elections in that country.

During the elections, Serhey Lyashkevich, worked for opposition presidential candidate Alyeksandr Milinkevych. He was charged according to new a criminal code adopted by the Belarus that foresees criminal responsibility for organizing and financing actions of mass protests. That new criminal code was adopted by the Belarus parliament shortly before elections in that country earlier this year.
