MDC reports 2.14 million mobile users

Belarusian mobile operator Mobile Digital Communications (MDC) says it signed up 2.14 million users by 1 May this year, up from 1.885 million on 1 January. In a statement the cellco said its network now covered 68% of Belarus' territory and around 90% of the population. It operated 1,252 base stations by the start of this month, up from 1,242 on 1 April. MDC, which markets its services under the brand name Velcom, was founded in August 1998 and is owned by the government (30.9%), SB Telecom of Cyprus (49%), Beltechexport (20%) and Beltelecom (0.1%).
