Foreign Organizations Planning Regime Change in Belarus - FSB

MosNews

Russian secret services claim that several foreign non-governmental organizations are planning a regime change in Belarus, Director of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) Nikolay Patrushev said in the State Duma Thursday, Interfax reports. He says the West is going to fund and organize a revolution similar to those in Georgia, Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan.

At a recent meeting in Bratislava some foreign organizations discussed the possibility of more velvet revolutions in the CIS countries, Patrushev said.

Among the organizations involved are the U.S. Peace Corps, the Saudi Red Crescent, several Kuwait organizations and several more bodies, Patrushev added.

"The plans are to have Ukrainian 'orange' functionaries involved in organizing a similar revolution in Belarus," Interfax quoted the Federal Security Service director as saying.

The organizations are backing up the event financially too, Patrushev added.

"The funding for Belarus in 2005 is $5 million," he was quoted by Intefax as saying.
