Medvedev offers Lukashenko assistance in investigating metro blast

In a telephone conversation with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev expressed his condolences to Belarus in connection with the explosion in the Minsk metro and offered all necessary assistance in the investigation of the incident.

According to the President’s press-secretary Natalia Timakova. During the conversation Dmitry Medvedev stressed that "Russia sincerely empathizes with the “fraternal people” of Belarus in their pain and terrible loss and understands the severity of harm befallen on the Belarusians people".

Alexander Lukashenko, in turn, expressed gratitude for the showing of solidarity and the support from Russia in the first hours after the tragedy.

According to recent reports, the explosion at the station "Oktyabrskaya” in the Minsk metro, killed seven people, and injured over a hundred.

The event has received the preliminary classification of a terrorist attack.
