Lukashenko attends memorial service for Polish president

MINSK, April 18 (Itar-Tass) -- Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and his son Nikolai attended the Sunday memorial service for Polish President Lech Kaczynski at the Krakow Cathedral.

Roman Catholic Church Cardinal in Belarus Kazimierz Swiatek accompanied Lukashenko to the Cathedral's altar, where the president lit a candle and laid flowers by the Kaczynski portrait. Swiatek said a prayer for the deceased president. He also thanked Lukashenko for his assistance to the Polish people and the attendance of the memorial service.

Lukashenko ordered state-run broadcasters to suspend amusement programs on Sunday because of the Polish president's funeral.
