First vice premier calls for boosting cooperation with Belarus

It is important for Ukraine to radically improve economic cooperation with Belarus, Ukraine's First Deputy Prime Minister Andriy Kliuev said during his meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Ukraine Valentin Velichko.

Kliuev reminded that since 2009 Belarus was Ukraine's third biggest trade partner in the Commonwealth of Independent States, after Russia and Kazakhstan, and the seventh biggest at the global level, the first vice premier's press service reported. In 2009, the general trade turnover between the two countries decreased by 39.5% to USD 3.08 billion. At the same time, Velichko said, bilateral trade is becoming more active. The parties also discussed preparations for the 18th meeting of the Ukraine-Belarus intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation slated for April 15 in Kyiv. They outlined several areas for development of trade and economic cooperation, as well as a number of projects in power industry.
