Fellowship House opens in Minsk

MINSK, Belarus - There are more than 20,000 Jews residing in the city of Minsk, the capital of Belarus. 3,500 of them comprise young families with children. Hundreds of these are families in distress, with critical financial difficulties. They do not have the ability to dress their children adequately or to provide them nutritious food to keep them healthy throughout cold and long winters. In order to help the above-mentioned families, a soup kitchen has been opened in Minsk by the Friendship Foundation (IFCJ), headed by Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein.

The kitchen is located in the new Jewish Community Center, which is situated in the center of the city. The kitchen and dining room cover 350 square meters and contains sophisticated modern equipment used to prepare fresh, nutritious meals and snacks, meeting the needs of beneficiaries using the best technology available.

Every day, the Dining room will feed 300 needy children. In addition to receiving a hot and satisfying meal, the kitchen will also send packaged fresh hot meals to needy families who are not otherwise able to come to the center.

Chief Rabbi of Minsk Shneur Deutch stated, "When the kitchen will be opened, it will be a warm house for all needy people and will serve as a central place of assistance for hundreds of needy families."
