Belarusian KGB Detains Polish Radio Correspondent

HRODNA, Belarus -- Agents from the Belarusian State Security Committee (KGB) have detained a correspondent for the Poland-based broadcaster Radio Racja, RFE/RL's Belarus Service reported.

Journalist Ivan Roman, who lives in the Belarusian city of Hrodna, was taken by the agents from his home on April 29.

Roman reportedly had been summoned by the KGB by telephone reportedly but had responded that he would appear only if summoned in an official subpoena.

Radio Racja is a Polish state-financed station that broadcasts in Belarusian from the city of Bialystok in northeastern Poland.
