Belorussian President wraps up visit to Vietnam

VietNamNet Bridge - Belorussian President Alexander G. Lukashenko left Hanoi on April 8, wrapping up his two-day visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Nguyen Minh Triet.

During the visit, the Belorussian President held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart, President Nguyen Minh Triet, met Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong.

In an open and warm atmosphere, leaders of Vietnam and Belarus exchanged views on issues relating to bilateral relations between the two countries as well as on regional and international issues of common concern.

Vietnam and Belarus issued a joint statement, affirming their consistent policy to incessantly strengthen and boost the bilateral relations between the two countries in all fields, as well as the two sides' common point of views on many important international issues in order to lift the two countries' cooperation to a new level.

Before leaving Hanoi, the Belorussian President joined a friendly meeting with former Vietnamese students in Belarus and representatives from the Vietnamese Fatherland Front, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, the Vietnam War Veterans Association, the Vietnam Women's Union, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, and some universities in Hanoi.

On behalf of the Vietnamese people, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations Vu Xuan Hong thanked to Belarus for the effective assistance it gave to Vietnam during the country's struggles for national independence as well as current national construction and development.

The Belorussian leader conveyed his congratulations to the Vietnamese people for the achievements they have made during the country's renewal process and expressed his belief that the traditional friendship between Belarus and Vietnam would continue developing.
