Belarus president visits Vietnam

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko pays an official two-day visit to Vietnam Monday, President Nguyen Minh Triet said.

Earlier in Minsk, President Lukashenko emphasized that his country is a reliable partner of Vietnam and the bond between the two countries had strengthened over previous decades.

"Vietnam has undergone many changes but one thing remains unchanged: Vietnam is still a friend of Belarus," he said.

He also affirmed that Belarus and Vietnam have forged close political ties and constructive coordination in the international arena.

Regarding the two countries' viewpoints and activities under the framework of the United Nations, President Lukashenko commented that cooperation between Belarus and Vietnam was fruitful and beneficial to national interests.

He cited the two countries' similar stances on major international issues, particularly in building an equal world order and respecting established international legal standards.

"Our countries share similar viewpoints on human rights issues and will stand together to fight against the 'double standards' that several countries have imposed on the issue," the president said.

He said the two sides are scheduled to sign a series of documents during his visit towards achieving US$100 million in two-way trade in the near future.

President Lukashenko expressed his belief that his visit will promote the comprehensive development of the two countries' relationship in politics, economics, culture and humanities.
