Sultanate, Belarus sign pact on avoidance of double taxation

MUSCAT - The Sultanate's government and the Republic of Belarus yesterday signed an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation and tax evasion on income and capital.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Sultanate's government by Ahmed bin Abdulnabi Macki, minister of national economy and deputy chairman of the Financial Affairs and Energy Resources Council, while Anna Deyko, Belarus minister of taxes and duties, signed on behalf of her government.

Macki said the agreement comes within the framework of boosting economic and trade cooperation between the Sultanate and Belarus, whereas it would provide investment environment that would encourage joint economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

He said the number of agreements signed by the Sultanate's government on the avoidance of double taxation so far stood at 26, noting that several agreements of great economic importance that work on increasing averages of trade exchange, economic and investment cooperation with various countries are being studied.

In her turn, Anna Deyko said the agreement would contribute to encouraging joint investment and largely boosting economic relations between the two countries.
