MUSCAT - President Alexander Lukashenko of the Republic of Belarus arrived here yesterday with his accompanying delegation on a two-day visit to the Sultanate in response to an invitation from His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said led the welcoming party for the Belarus president and his accompanying delegation upon his arrival at Al Alam Palace Guest House.
His Majesty welcomed President Alexander Lukashenko and his accompanying delegation, wishing him a happy stay during his visit to the Sultanate.
Then, His Majesty the Sultan escorted the president to the spot designated for hands-shaking, where His Majesty the Sultan shook hands with the members of the official delegation accompanying the president, while the president shook hands with the welcoming party which included His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, deputy prime minister for the Council of Ministers, members of the royal family, ministers, the chairmen of the State Council and the Majlis Al Shura, the inspector-general of police and customs, the head of Internal Security Service, the chief of staff of the Sultan's Armed Forces and commanders of the corps.
Then, His Majesty the Sultan and the Belarus president held a meeting during which they exchanged cordial conversation and reviewed good existing relations between the two friendly countries.
The meeting was attended from the Omani side by Sayyid Fahd; His Highness Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, minister of heritage and culture; Sayyid Ali bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, minister of the Diwan of Royal Court; General Ali bin Majid Al Ma'amari, minister of the Royal Office; Sayyid Badr bin Saud bin Hareb Al Busaidi, minister responsible for defence affairs; Sayyid Saud bin Ibrahim Al Busaidi, interior minister; Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, minister responsible for foreign affairs; Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Hinai, justice minister; Ahmed bin Abdulnabi Macki, minister of national economy and deputy chairman of the Financial Affairs and Energy Resources Council; Maqbool bin Ali Sultan, minister of commerce and industry; and Dr Rawiyah bint Saud Al Busaidiyah, higher education minister.
The meeting was also attended by the official delegation accompanying President Alexander Lukashenko.
Earlier, Sayyid Haitham received the president upon his arrival with his accompanying delegation at the Royal Airport.
President Lukashenko is accompanied by an official delegation comprising Vladimir Naumov, minister of interior; Sergey Martynov, minister of foreign affairs; Anna Deyko, minister of taxes and duties, Anatoliy Rusetskiy, minister of industry; Viktor Golovanov, minister of justice; Nikolay Azamatov, head of state military industry committee; Vladimir Matyushkov, chairman of the state science and technology committee; Mikhail Pavlov, mayor of Minsk; Alexandr Zhuk, first deputy education minister; Vladimir Sulmisky, Belarus ambassador to the UAE and special representative of the Belarus Foreign Ministry; Vasily Strazhev, vice-chancellor of Belarus State University.
