Putin advocates wider Russia-Belarus cooperation

MOSCOW. April 2 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a message to his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko, in connection with the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus, the Kremlin said on Monday.

"This day symbolizes the historical kinship of our people and their shared desire to live in a democratic and prosperous society," Putin said in his message.

"I am convinced that increasingly extensive, mutually beneficial and pragmatic cooperation in all spheres, primarily in the economic sphere, can make a substantial contribution to processes of integration and a considerable factor in raising the living standards of our fellow citizens," Putin said.
