CSTO training meant to demonstrate Belarus' effectiveness in anti-terrorism

Main purpose of the exercise of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation is to demonstrate capabilities of corresponding Belarusian agencies in stopping and minimising consequences of terrorist activities in order to improve the effectiveness of the national potential in the system of international measures designed to counteract terrorism and liquidate man-caused emergencies.

BelTA learnt from representatives of the press centre of the State Secretariat of the Belarusian Security Council, the training took place on April 24. It was arranged by the State Security Committee and the Emergencies Ministry within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation to train the alleviation of an emergency caused by a terrorist attack.

Representatives of CSTO member-states, the Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the CIS Anti-Terrorism Centre, heads of corresponding agencies of Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland, military attaches accredited in Belarus are expected to partake in the training.

The initiative to hold the exercise was put forward by the Belarusian side at the Minsk session of the CSTO Collective Security Council in June 2006. Minsk will host a roundtable session on topical problems of CSTO member-states' cooperation in the fight against terrorism and in the liquidation of natural and man-caused emergencies on April 25. Experts of CSTO member-states, the State Secretariat of the Security Council, the State Security Committee and the Emergencies Ministry of Belarus will take part in the discussion.
