Cuba, Belarus Foster Ties

Havana, Apr 21 (Prensa Latina) Belarus is seeking Friday to foster its position as a privileged Cuban economic partner and have more dynamic bilateral trade, as part of the agenda Prime Minister Serguei Sidorski?s visit to the island nation.

Sidorski advocated for broadening bilateral relations with Cuba after his arrival to this capital on Thursday, responding to an invitation by President Fidel Castro.

"Our country and Cuba maintain warm and strong ties," said the Belarussian prime minister, stating that agreements signed between both nations are being developed.

Besides meeting with Fidel Castro, Sidorski?s agenda includes, among others, sessions with other top leaders and ministers, visiting sites of cultural, historic, education and scientific interest, and laying a wreath at the Jose Marti Monument.

Belarus and Cuba actively help each other at the United Nations, Non-Aligned Movement and other international organizations.

According to Sidorski, there are so far 17 inter-government and inter-department agreements between the two countries in trade, economy, public health, certifications and consular relations.

This is Sidorski's first trip to the island, after his appointment as his country's prime minister in 2003.
