EU forbid Belarussian leaders entry to its territory

BRUSSELS. April 11, 2006. KAZINFORM - Foreign ministers of the EU member countries, who had a meeting in Luxembourg, have forbidden the Belarussian President and 30 Belarussian senior officials the entry to the territory of the European Union, a EU official spokesman reported on Monday. All the Belarusian "blacklisted"officials have been denied both Schengen visas and visas of any other country that belongs to the Europeans Union, for at term of one year. The term during which the ban remains in force might be lengthened, Kazinform cites Itar-Tass.

The EU gave up the idea of imposing economic sanctions against Belarus because such sanctions would, above all, affect the welfare of the population.
