EU Imposes Belarus Sanctions

Brussels, Apr 10 (Prensa Latina) The European Union has imposed sanctions on Belarus, preventing President Alexander Lukashenko and 30 ministers from entering EU countries.

The visa ban includes Lukashenko?s chief of staff Gennady Nevyglas, Education Minister Alexander Radkov, Information Minister Vladimir Rusakevich, Justice Minister Viktor Golovanov, head of state television and radio Alexander Zimovski, Belarussian prosecutor-general Pyotr Miklashevich and KGB security service chief Stepan Sukhorenko.

Lukashenko, who has been in power since 1994, returned to office for a third term with 83 percent of the vote, following his disputed March 19 election win.

The Belarus? president has accused the West of waging a crusade to drown his country in the chaos of anarchy, EU governments have supported a pro-western candidate that lost the elections.
