Belarussian Geologists Prospecting For Diamonds

The chance of finding a diamond pipe in Belarus is one in a hundred says Alexander Shuravin, General Director of Belgeologia, who notes that the country may have deposits of diamonds, gold, amber and titanium-magnesium ore.

Belarussian geologists began prospecting for diamond pipes in the southern part of the country a few years ago using aeromagnetic surveys. Based on the results of those surveys, minerals were found at some properties including associates of diamonds and selected diamond impregnations, thus confirming the possibility that there are diamond pipes in the country. There could be diamond pipes in the southeastern part of the country, possibly in the area of Zhlovin and Dobroush in the Gomel region.

"The amount of prospecting work is unbelievable, but if it is successful, all the costs will pay for themselves in a very short period. There are diamonds in Belarus, and we will certainly find them," enthuses Shuravin.

42 percent of Belarus has undergone geological surveys, though more than 52 percent of the country needs to be surveyed in detail.
