Venezuela agrees to send oil to Belarusian refineries - Mr Lukashenko

Interfax cited Mr Alexander Lukashenko Belarusian President as saying that Venezuelan President Mr Hugo Chavez has agreed to permit the shipment of crude oil extracted in his country to refineries in Belarus.

Mr Lukashenko said after talks with Mr Chavez in Caracas that "We have reached an agreement regarding deliveries of Venezuelan oil to Belarus, to our refineries. We will jointly reprocess it and sell petroleum products to the European market."

The Belarusian leader said the Belarusian-Venezuelan joint venture produces around one million tonnes of oil every year, and this figure will continue growing to meet the interests of both countries. He said that Belarus will also help construct pipelines that will deliver gas to Venezuelan towns and villages.

Mr Lukashenko said three or four plants for manufacturing tractors, trucks and large haulage vehicles, as well as a major brick making plant will be built in Venezuela within the next year. He said that a Belarusian house of commerce will be set up at the Venezuelan leader's initiative as well.

He added that "It will sell everything that Latin America needs."

Mr Chavez said, stressing the need to bolster contacts between the two countries highest-ranking officials Venezuela and Belarus plan to sign an agreement on cooperation in the energy sector in the near future.

He said that "We have been working to make our direct exchanges equal and to complement each other. We are fully determined to continue building our union."
