Putin never asks Belarus for recognizing Abkhazia, S-Ossetia

BREST, March 16 (Itar-Tass) -- Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said he had never asked Belarus for recognition of independent Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

"We did not discuss that today either," he said after Tuesday negotiations with Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky.

Such issues are for Presidents Dmitry Medvedev and Alexander Lukashenko, Putin said.

"Russia has always supported Belarus on the international scene even if certain economic disputes occurred," Putin said. "We have always adhered to the building of the Union State."

"In fact, Russia expected Belarusian support [to independence of the two republics]. That did not happen," Putin added.
