Shuvalov: Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan should form customs union in future

Interfax-Ukraine

Brest. March 16 (Interfax) - It would be logical for Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan to start forming a common currency market after establishing a common economic area in 2012, said Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov

"I refer to an opinion of authoritative experts that this will be the next absolutely logical step that we will have to discuss at the top level. It will be economically useful," Shuvalov told journalists in Brest on Tuesday.

"A currency union is the next phase of integration. It is necessary first to safely end the formation of the Customs Union and then [establish] the common economic area," he said.

The European Union passed the same stages earlier, he said.
