Chavez meets Lukashenko on strategic ties

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Monday met with his visiting Belarussian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko for talks aimed at expanding the strategic ties between the two countries.

At the Miraflores Palace in Venezuela's capital, the two leaders discussed issues of energy, construction and agro-industry, local media reported.

"Our countries will continue advancing and boosting our developments, with the ideas of socialism. We are united and we have held meetings for five consecutive years," Chavez said after their meeting, together with Lukashenko.

Chavez also said he will visit Belarus in the coming months.

At the proposal of Chavez, Venezuela and Belarus will create a joint company to distribute Belarussian commodities to Venezuela and other Latin American countries.

This is Lukashenko's second visit to Venezuela in two years. The two countries have more than 70 agreements between them, with a bilateral trade volume of 200 million U.S. dollars last year.
