An opposition rally on Den' Voli (Day of Independence) took place in Minsk. About 1500 people gathered in the centre of the city to participate in the meeting dedicated to the 82th anniversary of the proclamation of Belarussian People's Republic in 1918.

The rally was traditionally organised by opposition Belarussian People's Front Party. The leaders of the party wished to gather near the Belarussian Academy of Sciences and march in the centre of Minsk but the authorities allowed only meeting at the Bangalor square far from centre. So that the meeting was taken near the Academy of Sciences and after it opposition activists tried to march to the centre of the city but were stopped by police forces.

Also there were activists from nationalistic alliance Belaya Volya (White Will) that called themselves Syny Peruna (Sons of Perun, Perun is a Slavonic pagan god) on the meeting. They didn't participated in the common rally and leaved it after 20 minutes.

The action finished near 20 p.m. without any serious clashes with the police.

By the way, there were some press officers from the city's police department that were to help reporters if needed. The spokesman of the Minsk police department Alexandr Lastovskiy advised the journalist to get as close to him as possible in order any violent actions between the participants of the rally and the police. It's associated with recent conflict between Belarusian reporters and police when policemen had prevented photographers and cameramen do their job during opposition actions last autumn and winter.
