MINSK. March. 3. (Interfax) - The Belarusian trade deficit came to $123.8 million in January 2008, down 60% from January 2007, the Statistics and Analysis Ministry told Interfax.
The ministry said that foreign trade came to $5.08 billion, an increase of 61.4% from January of last year. Total trade with CIS countries came to $2.98 billion, up 76.5% year-on-year. Trade with Russia accounted for 85.2% of trade with CIS states, down from 85.7% in January 2007. However, trade between Belarus and Russia increased 76.7% to $2.54 billion.
Trade between Belarus and Ukraine increased 95.3% year-on-year to $358.9 million.
In January 2008, trade with non-CIS countries increased 44% year- on-year to $2.1 billion. Trade with Germany decreased 39.8% year-on-year to $171.1 million.
The ministry said that Belarus boosted exports 77.9% year-on-year to $2.47 billion in January 2008.
Imports to Belarus came to $2.6 billion in January, up from 48.4% from January in comparison with the previous year.
