U.S.-Belarusian relations to normalize - Belarus speaker

MINSK. March 28 (Interfax) - Speaker of the Chamber of Representatives of Belarusian National Assembly Vadim Popov says that U.S.-Belarusian relations will normalize in the future.

"I think that the economic issues will prevail over political statements and everything else," Vadim Popov told Interfax on Friday.

Popov did not comment on the situation surrounding U.S. sanctions against Belneftekhim. "Economic relations with the U.S. are on the path of improvement and it is sufficiently stable," he said.

"A little time will pass and everything will settle down and come to normal," he said.

U.S.-Belarusian relations have been aggravated in the last few weeks. The U.S. has adopted sanctions against Belneftekhim, and a diplomatic row that broke out recently resulted in the expulsion of a large number of U.S. diplomats from Minsk.
