Russia-Belarus trade surges

Minsk, Belarus, Mar 21, 2008 (RosBusinessConsulting via COMTEX) -- NO MATCHES FOUND. | news | PowerRating | PR Charts -- Trade between Russia and Belarus grew 76 percent to RUB 60bn (approx. USD 2.53bn) in January 2008 compared to the same period in 2007, Belarus Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky said at the opening of a meeting of the Union State Council of Ministers in Minsk today. He noted that exports of Russian products to Belarus exceeded Belarus's exports to Russia considerably. Sidorsky also said that bilateral steps to create a common economic space had been successful and many problems had been solved, particularly those of goods transit and railway tariffs.

In turn, Russian Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov reiterated that bilateral trade had doubled over a period of four years, reaching an record mark of USD 26bn in 2007. The PM stated that the figure could grow even further.
