Lukashenko notes Putin's contribution to revival of Russia

MINSK, March 3 (Itar-Tass) -- Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko sent a message to incumbent Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"March 2, 2008 is an important date in the history of modern Russia. This day, citizens of your country voted for the preservation of stability and further reforms aimed at strengthening Russia's statehood," the message said.

"The wholehearted choice is the convincing recognition of your political and socio-economic reforms by society," the message said.

Earlier, Lukashenko congratulated President-Elect Dmitry Medvedev on the victory in the election.

"Russia is reviving, the quality of life in Russia is on the rise, and the country's weight in the international arena is growing mainly owing to the activity of President Putin," Lukashenko said in his message to incumbent president.

"I praise our relations of confidence and mutual respect and I'll be always glad to welcome your in Belarus," he went on.

"I hope your ample big social and political experience and profound knowledge will be advantageous for Russia and will serve many times to our common cause - construction of the Union State," Lukashenko stressed.
