Belarus Community Eagerly Prepares for Passover

MINSK, Belarus - Even though the holiday of Purim is over a month away, the Association of Jewish Communities of Belarus has already begun making preparations for Passover. Among the necessary tasks ahead of the organization, the acquisition and distribution of Matzah is one of the most important.

This year, it is anticipated that 6 ? tons of Matza will be received. With assistance from the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS and the Ohr Avner Foundation, the Matzah Campaign has been a huge success for some years now, reaching both large and small communities - not only in Belarus, but in over a dozen former Soviet republics.

Sholom Malinkin, who serves as the Chairman of the Association of Jewish Communities of Belarus, spoke to the press about this major initiative. "This year, we are again receiving a shipment of Matzah from our colleagues in Moscow. But this time, there will be significantly more sent so that there is enough to go around in Belarus - for all Jewish communities in our country, whether or not they are affiliated with our organization".

At the present time, campaign organizers are engaged in preparing all the necessary documentation required to ship the Matzah to Minsk in advance of the Passover holiday. From there, it will be dispersed to other regional centers and smaller communities.
