Ukrainian border guards detain Belarus' canoeing team
ODESSA, March 20 (Itar-Tass) - Ukrainian border guards detained Belarus' canoeing team for violating the border at the Kuchurgan firth in the Odessa region on Monday.
During training ten athletes on eight canoes and a coach on a motorboat violated the border near the Gradenitsy checkpoint.
Belarussian canoers said they are training in the Dniester region for the upcoming World Canoe Championship as Belarus' rivers are still covered with ice. The Dniester region's team invited them for training.
The detainees say they knew that a state border between Ukraine and Moldova runs across the Kuchurgan firth, but there were no demarcation signs in the area.
Ukraine's court is investigating the violation.
