Georgian FM Is Concerned Over Actions Of Byelorussian Government

Tbilisi. March 17 (Prime-News) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia expresses indignation at the detention in the Minsk airport of a group of Georgian parliamentarians on their way to Byelorussia to monitor the forthcoming presidential elections under the aegis of the OSCE election observer mission.

Statement widespread by the Foreign Ministry of Georgia reads that that the fact lays bare again the Byelorussian government's undisguised decision to act in defiance of the universally recognized principles of democracy and transparency in elections.

In connection with this fact, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has already sent a protest note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia demands categorically that the Belarus side allow the Georgian diplomat to exercise consular functions aimed at protecting the rights of the citizens of Georgia and give the group of Georgian parliamentarians the possibility to carry out monitoring mission under the OSCE aegis.
