Belarus to increase customs duties on imported cars for individuals

Belarus will increase the rate of customs duties on imported cars for individuals to the level of Customs Union from July 1, 2011, said Deputy Chairman of Belarus' State Customs Committee Sergei Borisyuk before the parliamentary commission on Thursday.

The size of customs duties for individuals in Russia is approximately equal to fees for Belarusian legal entities and significantly higher than for Belarusian individuals. In the case of adopting a single rate there will be the same customs duties in all three countries of the Customs Union -- Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan.

Experts believe that the customs duties for individuals in Russia are four or more times higher than in Belarus now.

Borisyuk said that after the increase of customs duties the number of imported cars in Belarus will be reduced, but "the decline in import of cars would be offset by the amount of customs duties."
