Representatives of the Russian embassy to be in court at Russians' trial in Minsk

MINSK, February 17 (Itar-Tass) - Representatives of the Russian embassy in the Republic of Belarus will be present at the court hearings of the criminal case of Russian citizens Artyom Breus and Ivan Gaponov arrested in Minsk, Vadim Gusev, the counselor of the Russian embassy, told Itar-Tass on Thursday. "Russian diplomats will certainly be present at the court meetings," he said.

Gusev also said the embassy received on Thursday an official notification that the hearings of the case of the arrested Russian citizens would begin on February 22, at 10:00 local time (11:00 Moscow time) in the court of the Moscow district of Minsk.

Russian citizens Breus and Gaponov were detained in Minsk on December 19, 2010, during an unsanctioned rally in support of candidates for Belarussian presidency from the opposition. They were punished for participating in the rally with administrative arrest. Under the pressure of Russian embassy officials, the Russian citizens were released on December 29, only to be arrested in a few minutes again, that time in the framework of the case of mass rioting.
