Belarus achieves compromise with Gazprom for 2012-2014

MINSK, February 16 (Itar-Tass) -- Belarus has reached the absolute compromise with Gazprom on cooperation in 2012-2104, First Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Semashko told the media on Wednesday. He said that on Tuesday he had met with Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller and discussed prospects for cooperation till 2014.

"We achieved what it seemed to me a compromise on the basic principles for cooperation in 2012-2014," said Semashko. Among other things they talked in very special terms about the details of a contract for Russian gas transit via Belarus, and also for Russian gas supplies to Belarus in 2012-2014. He recalled that on December 31, 2011 the current contract with Gazprom would expire.

"To avoid creating negative precedents we have decided to discuss this topic," Semashko said.
