Largest Belarussian PET manufacturer plans capacity expansion and modernisation

Mogilevkhimvolokno (Mogilev / Belarus; www.khimvolokno.by) plans to build a new PET line at its site in Mogilev by 2014. The Belneftekhim (Minsk / Belarus; www.belneftekhim.by) subsidiary currently has capacity to produce 80,000 t/y of bottle and fibre grades. However, the grades cannot be exported since, by own company estimates, they do not comply with existing international standards.

Mogilevkhimvolokno currently is on the lookout for an investor to help it raise the necessary funds of EUR 56m. With a projected namplate capacity of 140,000 t/y, the new plant is to manufacture PET for both bottle as well as fibre/nonwoven production. In addition, the site's eldest polycondensation line is to be modernised and switched to resin. The Belarussian company also is planning to install preform injection moulding capacity in Mogilev.
