Resin producer to set up bottle grade PET polymer plant

Mogilevkhimvolokno, a resin manufacturer from Belarus, intends to reinforce its PET business by means of constructing and installing a new bottle grade PET polymer plant by 2015 with an annual production capacity of 120,000 metric tons.

Mogilevkhimvolokno is the subsidiary of Minsk-based state-owned oil and chemicals company, Belneftekhim and specializes in the production of chemicals. It has been planning for expansion and upgradation of its PET manufacturing plant and enhancement of its polymer exports.

Currently, it is running a polycondensation plant having an annual production capacity of 80,000 metric ton but the PET manufactured by it does not fulfill the international quality standards.

The bottle grade PET polymer plant project will cost ?120 million ($163.7 million) including the buying as well as installation of machinery required for the manufacturing of bottle-grade PET from purified terephthalic acid (PTA).

The company is also involved in the upgradation of its various other manufacturing units. It has already made an investment in the manufacturing of non-woven materials, technical yarns like those of tire cord and revamping of its PET as well as dimethyl terphthalate (DMT) plants.

The introduction of the latest technology for bottle grade plant will permit the company to decrease the use of raw materials as well as energy required in the polyester manufacturing process.
