Belarus wants to buy Polotsk-Ventspils pipeline on mutually beneficial terms

Alla Petrova, BC, Riga,

Belarus wants to buy Polotsk-Ventspils pipeline, as Belarus Ambassador to Latvia Aleksandr Gerasimenko informed the newspaper "Cas" and the television channel "Pro100TV".

Gerasimenko pointed out that Belarus is ready to buy the pipeline and use it on mutually beneficial terms, however, so far it was not possible to come to an agreement with the pipeline's shareholders, possibly due to political factors, informs LETA.

Gerasimenko said that Belarus still hopes to transport its imported oil from Venezuela through Latvia. Five to seven million tons could be transported per year. Each ton would net Latvia's budget USD 10 (LVL 5.16).

Gerasimenko explained that Belarus wants to have its own pipeline and terminal.
