Russia, Belarus to clinch nuclear plant deal by April

Russia and Belarus will sign an agreement on the construction of a Belarusian nuclear power by April, the head of the Russian state nuclear agency Rosatom Sergey Kirienko said Wednesday.

He said that during talks in Minsk, the parties had agreed on the schedule for signing all related agreements and construction work may start in September.

With Russia's assistance, Belarus plans to build a two unit nuclear power plant with total capacity of 2,400 MW. The first stage of the plant will be put into operation in 2017.
