U.S. senators met with the students of EHU

On February 4 the delegation of the U.S. Senators and Congressmen met with students and faculty of the European Humanities University. The meeting was held in the building of the Parliament (Seimas) of Lithuania, informed BC EHU's press service.

The delegation headed by Senator from Arizona and former presidential candidate John McCain was attended by the Senators Joseph Lieberman, Susan M. Collins, Mark Udall, Jeanne Shaheen, John Barrasso, as well as the representatives of the U.S. Congress Howard Berman, Nita Lowey, Jane Harman, Jeff Flake, representatives of the U.S. NGO's and Press.

During the meeting, EHU students were interested in the U.S. sanctions on Belarus, in support to EHU, in possible ways of cooperation between universities and community organizations in the U.S.

Students noted the need to seek opportunities for citizens of Belarus to visit other countries, to simplify Student Visa Procedures to the USA, to seek new approaches to cooperation with civil society in Belarus and to increase assistance to youth organizations.

The representatives of the delegation confirmed that they would support the University and stressed that the current visit of the senators in Vilnius is a vivid testimony to this fact. The visitors were interested in the life of Belarusian students in Lithuania, their prospects for the future.

The Senator from Maine Susan M. Collins stated that the process of transformation in Belarus will take a lot of time and, according to members of Parliament USA, EHU is an important part of this process. "The University plays an important role in the transformation process in Belarus and prepares future leaders", Senator Susan M. Collins said.
