Following the EU decision to support civil society in Belarus following the manipulated presidential elections and the violent suppression of public protests, an international donors' conference Solidarity with Belarus was held in Warsaw on 2 February.
The conference sent a clear political signal about an enhanced support to the Belarusian non-governmental organisations, independent media and students. The EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fulle promised EUR 15.6million, a four-fold increase of EU financial aid to Belarus.
As a long-term supporter to the Belarusian non-governmental sector and its expert community, Slovakia declared an intention to extend the aid to the wider civil. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs SR shall retain dialogue about Belarus with the Slovak NGOs and will continue working with them on Slovakia's official development aid projects.
