Belarus. Belsolod Malt Output Reduced by 35.3% in 2009

OAO Belsolod, the country's only producer of malt, reported a 35.3% decrease in malt output in 2009 over 2008 to 54,180 tonnes, a source in the company told.

Product output fell 35.3% to 71.933 billion Belarusian rubles (Br) in value terms.

Exports fell 67.7% to 11,770 tonnes. In value terms, exports dropped 80.2% to USD 4.626 million.

Sale proceeds amounted to 40.158 billion rubles, down 53.3%.

Belsolod on August 7 suspended its operations for reconstruction and plans to resume production on November 1, 2009.

The reconstruction, worth an estimated 92 billion rubles, is required to double the malt-producing capacity to 130,000 tonnes without additional energy costs. It is planned to install almost 16 million euros' worth of Swiss Buhler AG equipment at Belsolod.

The reconstruction is scheduled to be completed in 2010. Some 11 million euros will be required to build a new grain elevator with a capacity of 100,000 tonnes.

Belsolod was established in 1989 and transformed into a joint stock company in 1996.
