Parliament ratifies agreement with Belarus on extradition

The Verkhovna Rada ratified an agreement between Ukraine and Belarus about extradition, 305 MPs voted for that law.

The agreement between the two countries on extradition of persons condemned to imprisonment for the following service of sentence was signed on June 12, 2009, in Kyiv. The aim of the agreement is creation of a legal basis for extradition of condemned persons for the following service of sentence by them on the territory of the state of their citizenship, as well as determining a relevant mechanism of cooperation for competent bodies of the both states, an explanatory note to the law reads. Central authorities for fulfillment of the agreement provisions are determined as follows: in Ukraine - the Justice Ministry of Ukraine, in Belarus - the Prosecutor General's Office of Belarus. The agreement between Ukraine and Belarus about extradition comes into force in 30 days following exchange of instruments of ratification.
