Belarus expanding commodity distribution network in Moldova

Belarus has been steadily expanding its commodity distribution network in Moldova, BelTA learnt from Dmitry Samusevich, counselor for trade and economic issues of the embassy of Belarus in Moldova.

The major bulk of the Belarusian export is advanced via dealer networks and trading houses. In 2008, new dealer contracts were signed by Amkodor, Spartak, Krasnyi Pishchevik, Glubokoye Dairy, Dionis Distillery, the Slutsk Sugar Refining Plant and Zhabinka Sugar Plant. BelAZ representative office opened spare part storage in the town of Rezina, the Milavitsa company - two chain stores in Chisinau.

According to Dmitry Samusevich, joint Moldovan-Belarusian companies have been set up recently in Moldova to promote finishing materials and sanitary ware (Keramin trading company), oil products (Westoil). The first representative office of Belarusian pharmaceutical companies has opened in Moldova while the first joint venture to bottle Moldovan wines has been set up in Belarus.

In 2008, Belarus-Moldova trade reached $334.9 million, up 47.7% from 2007. Last year Belarusian exports to Moldova were up 67.3% to $242.2 billion. Moldovan exports to Belarus increased by 13.1% to $92.7 million. Belarus had a surplus in trade with Moldova to the tune of $149.5 million, up 2.4 times as against 2007.
