Belarus: production of hothouse vegetables increased

According to information of Belarusian statistics Committee, in 2008, production of hothouse vegetables totaled 85.400 tonnes and increased by 2.5 %, compared to the same data of 2007. Production of cucumbers reached the level of 36.700 tonnes, tomatoes - 42.600 tonnes, other crops (fresh herbs, pepper, egg-plants) - nearly 1000 tonnes. According to data of the Ministry of agriculture, during the reporting period, areas under hothouses totaled 197.5 ha. Should be noted that exports of hothouse vegetables totaled nearly 10.000 tonnes, compared to the same index of 2007 that totaled 7.500 tonnes.

As of February 1 of the current year, 986.6 tonnes of hothouse vegetables were produced in Belarus.
