Statesman News Service

KOLKATA, Feb. 21: Belarus is aiming to triple bilateral trade with India by 2010. Trade between the two nations stood at $183 million in the financial year 2006-07.

Speaking at a seminar organised by the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry here today, Mr Oleg N Laptenok, Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus in India, said: "We are focussing on inter-regional cooperation with different states of India". He said India being a huge economy, it was difficult for Belarus to conduct trade efficiently with the whole of the country simultaneously.

It has entered into an agreement with a premier business association in the eastern India last November which would result in exchange of more business delegations between Bengal and Belarus.
