Belarusian orphan to stay in Poland?

The family court in Lublin, eastern Poland has suspended the decision to extradite the Bearusian orphan Jas, born in Poland and suffering from cystic fibrosis.

Just after the baby was born, his mother, a Belarusian citizen, renounced parental rights.

The prosecutor's office in Lublin appealed the decision to extradite the boy to Belarus.

During a hearing that was held behind closed doors the Lublin court looked into the act of appeal and, and, bearing in mind the boy's condition, and decided to suspend the decision.

A Pole thought to be the father of the 10-month-old boy has agreed to have his DNA examined. If it turns out that he really is the father, the boy will then probably have dual citizenship, Polish and Belorussian, and will be able to stay in Poland.
